Authors:Sönmez, Bingür; Tansal, Selim; Ünal, Mehmet; Korkut, Ali Kubilay; Yaǧan, Naci Erciyes; Demirsoy, Ergun; Arbatlı, Harun; Aytekin, Vedat
Publisher and Date:(2001)We report a case of pulmonary trunk aneurysm extending into the left pulmonary artery due to pulmonary hypertension secondary to mitral valve disease. The mitral valve was replaced with a bileaflet mechanical prosthesis. A Dacron graft interposed between main trunk and left pulmonary artery branch and right pulmonary branch attached to the graft in an end-to-side fashion. Early postoperative angiogram revealed a very successful treatment.

A new technique for abdominal heart transplantation in rats
Authors:Demirsoy, Ergun; Arbatlı, Harun; Korkut, Ali Kubilay; Yağan, N.; Sönmez, Bingür
Publisher and Date:(Edizioni Minerva Medica, 2003)Experimental studies in animals play a major role in the progress of medicine. Different surgical techniques have been described for heterotopic heart transplantation in rats. in this study we introduce a new technique for heart transplantation in thc abdominal cavity of rats. Fifteen Sprague Dawley rats have been used as recipients and 15 others as donors. Following preparation of recipient abdominal aorta and left renal vein the donor heart including proximal arcus aorta was harvested. Donor ...

Acute aortic valve regurgitation secondary to blunt chest trauma
Authors:Ünal, Mehmet; Demirsoy, Ergun; Göğüş, Abdullah; Arbatlı, Harun; Hamzaoǧlu, Azmi; Sönmez, Bingür
Publisher and Date:(Texas Heart Inst., 2001)Blunt injury to the cardiac valves leads to progressive acute ventricular failure which often requires urgent surgical management In this case report we describe an acute aortic valve rupture caused by air-bag inflation during an automobile accident. Laceration of an aortic valve cusp was treated successfully with urgent aortic valve replacement. A concomitant orthopedic injury was treated electively 15 days after cardiac surgery. Acute aortic valve rupture is a very rare complication of blunt ...

Intraoperative thermal coronary angiography: quality control
Authors:Sönmez, Barış; Tansal, Selim; Yagan, N.; Ünal, M.; Arbatlı, Harun; Korkut, K.; Demirsoy, Ergun; Bayındır, Osman
Publisher and Date:(Medimond Srl, 2000)Per operative coronary angiography has always been desired by coronary surgeons. Direct coronary angiographic imaging is not practical since needs contrast injection requires radiation and excessive technology with experienced staff which adds more expenses. Thermal angiography device IVA-2000 (OPGAL) is started to be used in our coronary bypass operations as a routine procedure. Thermal imaging provides an effective and real time coronary angiograms which provides very clear coronary angiograms ...

Repair of recurrent patent ductus arteriosus in an adult with cardiopulmonary bypass
Authors:Arbatlı, Harun; Özbek, Uğur; Demirsoy, Ergun; Ünal, Mehmet; Yağan, Naci; Sönmez, Bingür
Publisher and Date:(Blackwell Futura Publishing Inc, 2003)Recurrence of ductal patency is a rarely encountered complication in surgical repair of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). An adult patient with ductal recurrency underwent closure of ductus by using cardiopulmonary bypass via transpulmonary approach. She had significant improvement of symptoms and no residual shunt or pseudoneurysm seven months after surgery.

The role of posterior pericardiotomy on the incidence of atrial fibrillation after coronary revascularization
Authors:Arbatlı, Harun; Demirsoy, Ergun; Aytekin, Saide; Rızaoğlu, E.; Ünal, M.; Yağan, N.; Sönmez, Bingür
Publisher and Date:(Edizioni Minerva Medica, 2003)Aim. Pericardial effusion and atrial fibrillation (AF) are two common complications in coronary revascularization surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of posterior pericardiotomy in pericardial. effusion and AF. Methods. This randomized prospective study includes 113 patients who underwent isolated CABG procedure between May 2000 and December 2000 in our hospital. Posterior pericardiotomy incision was done in Group I (n=54). Group II constituted the control group (n=59). ...
