Effect of glurenorm on immunohistochemical changes in pancreatic β cells of rats in experimental diabetes
Authors:Koyutürk, Meral; Özsoy-Saçan, Özlem; Bolkent, Şehnaz; Yanardağ, Refiye
Publisher and Date:(2005)Immunohistochemical localization of islets of Langerhans of streptozotocin (65 mg/kg ip) induced diabetic + glurenorm (10 mg/kg po) treated female albino rats revealed increase in number of β cells and insulin immunoreactivity of β cells. The results suggest that glurenorm can cause the stimulation of β cells of endocrine pancreas in diabetic rats.

Effects of vanadyl sulfate on liver of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Authors:Koyutürk, Meral; Tunali, Sevim; Bolkent, Şehnaz; Yanardağ, Refiye
Publisher and Date:(Humana Press Inc., 2005)The aim of this study was to investigate the microscopic and biochemical effects of vanadyl sulfate on liver tissue of normal and streptozotocin (65 mg/kg) diabetic rats. Vanadyl sulfate was administered by gavage at a dose of 100 mg/kg. Degenerative changes were observed in diabetic animals by light and transmission electron microscopes. Although there were individual differences in diabetic animals to which vanadium was given some reduction of degenerative changes were detected. After 60 d of ...

Influence of combined antioxidants against cadmium induced testicular damage
Authors:Koyutürk, Meral; Yanardağ, Refiye; Bolkent, Şehnaz; Tunalı, Sevim
Publisher and Date:(Elsevier Science Bv, 2006)Acute effects ofcadmium (Cd) and combined antioxidants were evaluated in Sprague-Dawley rat testes. The rats were subdivided into four groups. Cadmium chloride (2 mg/kg day) injected intraperitoneally during 8 days. Vitamin C (250 mg/kg day) vitamin E (250 rng/kgday) and sodium selenate (0.25 mg/kg day) were pretreated by gavage in both ofcontrol and cadmium injected rats. Testis lipid peroxidation and glutathione levels were determined by spectrophotometrically. In Cd treated rats lipid peroxidation ...

Protective effects of ascorbic acid DL-alpha-tocopherol acetate and sodium selenate on ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury of rats
Authors:Özdil, Sadakat; Refiye, Yanardağ; Koyutürk, Meral; Bolkent, Şehnaz; Arbak, Serap
Publisher and Date:(Humana Press Inc., 2004)In this study the effect of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) DL-alpha-tocopherol acetate (vitamin E) and sodium selenate (selenium) on ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury in rats was investigated morphologically and biochemically. The gastric mucosal injury was produced by administration of 1 mL of absolute ethanol to each rat. Animals received vitamin C (250 mg/kg) vitamin E (250 mg/kg) and selenium (0.5 mg/kg) for 3 d 1 h prior to the administration of absolute ethanol. In gastric mucosa of rats ...

The protective effect of vitamin C vitamin E and selenium combination therapy on ethanol-induced duodenal mucosal injury
Authors:Koyutürk, Meral; Bolkent, Şehnaz; Özdil, S; Arbak, Serap; Yanardağ, Refiye
Publisher and Date:(Arnold Hodder Headline Plc., 2004)In this study the effect of a combination of vitamin C vitamin E and selenium on ethanol-induced duodenal mucosal damage in rats was investigated morphologically and biochemically. The duodenal mucosal injury was produced by oral administration of 1 mL of absolute ethanol to each rat. Animals received vitamin C ( 250 mg/ kg) vitamin E ( 250 mg/kg) and selenium (0.5 mg/kg) for 3 days and absolute ethanol 1 hour after last antioxidant administration and were sacrificed 1 hour after absolute ethanol. ...
