A low-complexity time-domain MMSE channel estimator for space-time/frequency block-coded OFDM systems
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Hindawi Publishing Corporation, 2006)Focusing on transmit diversity orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission through frequency-selective channels this paper pursues a channel estimation approach in time domain for both space-frequency OFDM (SF-OFDM) and space-time OFDM (ST-OFDM) systems based on AR channel modelling. The paper proposes a computationally efficient pilot-aided linear minimum mean-square-error (MMSE) time-domain channel estimation algorithm for OFDM systems with transmitter diversity in unknown ...

Blind-phase noise estimation in OFDM systems by sequential Monte Carlo method
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(John Wiley and Sons Ltd, 2006)One of the main drawbacks of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems is the phase noise (PN) caused by the oscillator instabilities. Unfortunately due to the PN the most valuable feature namely orthogonality between the carriers is destroyed resulting in a significant degradation in the performance of OFDM systems. In this paper based on a sequential Monte Carlo method (particle filtering) a computationally efficient algorithm is presented for estimating the residual phase noise ...

Canonical forms for families of anti-commuting diagonalizable linear operators
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Elsevier Science Inc, 2012)It is well known that a commuting family of diagonalizable linear operators on a finite dimensional vector space is simultaneously diagonalizable. In this paper we consider a family A = {A(a)} A(a) : V -> V a = 1... N of anti-commuting (complex) linear operators on a finite dimensional vector space. We prove that if the family is diagonalizable over the complex numbers then V has an A-invariant direct sum decomposition into subspaces V(alpha) such that the restriction of the family A to V(alpha) ...

Experimental experience in design education as a resource for innovative thinking: The case of Bruno Munari
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Elsevier Science Bv, 2010)Design education in general includes various design fields such as product design graphic design communication design and design in engineering. Designing as an activity captures all these various fields. Design refers basically to a problem solving method a creative problem solving approach and relevant processes. Design as an activity has always been considered as a creative tool. Design education mainly focuses on enhancing creative approaches with various 2D and 3D project based basic design ...

Fully Decentralized and Collaborative Multilateration Primitives for Uniquely Localizing WSNs
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Springer International Publishing Ag, 2010)We provide primitives for uniquely localizing WSN nodes. The goal is to maximize the number of uniquely localized nodes assuming a fully decentralized model of computation. Each node constructs a cluster of its own and applies unique localization primitives on it. These primitives are based on constructing a special order for multilaterating the nodes within the cluster. The proposed primitives are fully collaborative and thus the number of iterations required to compute the localization is fewer ...

Is China Integrated With Her Major Trading Partners: Evidence On Financial And Real Integration
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Vilnius Gediminas Tech Univ, 2010)Applying the new panel unit root test developed in this paper we can overcome the pitfalls of old-fashioned panel unit root tests making it possible for researchers testing individual series for a unit root while taking contemporaneous cross-sectional dependence and structural break into account. The proposed test was used to investigate the status of financial and real integration of China Japan UK the European Union and the United States based on the empirical validity of real interest parity ...

Luleburgaz Train Station At The Turn Of The Twentieth Century
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Middle East Technical Univ, 2011)The literature on the architecture of the Ottoman railway buildings is highly limited. In terms of architectural history the data presented here gathered through original documents at archives and personal collections is especially significant. In this paper five original drawings are introduced. Based on these documents information on the construction techniques plans and materials of the railway buildings are revealed. It is also understood that in this particular period of time several revisions ...

Nuclear level density of 161Dy in the shell Model Monte Carlo Method
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(EDP Sciences, 2012)We extend the shell-model Monte Carlo applications to the rare-earth region to include the odd-even nucleus Dy-161. The projection on an odd number of particles leads to a sign problem at low temperatures making it impractical to extract the ground-state energy in direct calculations. We use level counting data at low energies and neutron resonance data to extract the shell model ground-state energy to good precision. We then calculate the level density of Dy-161 and find it in very good agreement ...

Percolation and Film Formation Behaviors of MWNT/PS Nanocomposites
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Elsevier Science Bv, 2011)This study involves the investigation of film formation and electrical conductivity properties of polystrene (PS) latex/multi-walled Carbon nanotube (MWNT) composites. Films prepared from PS/MWNT mixtures with different MWNT content were separately annealed above glass transition temperature of PS. Film formation stages of PS/MWNT composites were followed by monitoring the change in transmitted light intensity I-tr. The surface conductivity of films was found to increase dramatically above 4 wt% ...

Relationship Between Financial Crisis And Foreign Direct Investment In Developing Countries Using Semiparametric Regression Approach
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Vilnius Gediminas Tech Univ, 2010)This paper analyzes whether and to what extent the inflow of FDI is affected before and after the occurence of a financial crisis in developing countries. The paper uses a semiparametric Generalized Partial Linear Models (GPLM) regression approach to check the appropriateness and effectiveness of financial crisis in the FDI regression model. The results indicate that FDI inflows decrease in the years after a financial crisis and an upturn in FDI inflows the year before a financial crisis hit the country.

Rental Price Convergence In A Developing Economy: New Evidence From Nonlinear Panel Unit Root Test
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Vilnius Gediminas Tech Univ, 2010)We examine the hypothesis of nonlinear rental price convergence using relative rental price index of three major cities of Turkey namely Istanbul Izmir and Ankara span from the period from January 1994 to February 2010. Our results indicate that all cities exhibit rental price convergence towards its national mean level for the period of January 1994 to December 2004. In contrast none of the cities show evidence of convergence from January 2005 to February 2010. The evidence clearly shows rental ...

The effect of film thickness and TiO2 content on film formation from PS/TiO2 nanocomposites prepared by dip-coating method
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Hindawi Publishing Corporation, 2012)Steady-state fluorescence (SSF) technique in conjunction with UV-visible (UVV) technique and atomic force microscope (AFM) was used for studying film formation from TiO2 covered nanosized polystyrene (PS) latex particles (320 nm). The effects of film thickness and TiO2 content on the film formation and structure properties of PS/TiO2 composites were studied. For this purpose two different sets of PS films with thicknesses of 5 and 20 mu m were prepared from pyrene-(P-) labeled PS particles and ...

Visual culture in art teacher education: A Turkish case
Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Elsevier Science Bv, 2010)As globalization impacts Turkish culture the training and preparation of art teachers is increasingly important because these individuals will play a key role in teaching children how to become visually literate in a quickly changing world. This paper explores the concept of visual culture in Turkey as perceived by eight art teacher instructors teaching at various public universities' educational faculties in Turkey. A phenomenological human science approach was employed in order to develop a ...
