Publisher and Date:(Elsevier Ireland Ltd., 2005)The P50 component of the event-related potential (ERP) mainly reflects early pre-attentional processing. Along with P50 the N100 component and mismatch negativity (MMN) were postulated to represent a complex multistage and multi-component gating system. If some variable threshold or gating is exceeded by the MMN signal the MMN is often followed by a relatively sharp fronto-central positive wave the P3a component which reflects an attentional switch to an environmental change. The P50 was shown to ...
Publisher and Date:(Elsevier Ireland Ltd., 2018)This paper discusses the training of nurses in smoking cessation as part of routine patient care in Turkey. Formative research was carried out prior to training to identify challenges faced by smokers when trying to quit. Site visits to government hospitals and cessation clinics were conducted to observe health care provider-patient interactions involving behavior change. Four culturally sensitive cessation training workshops for nurses (n=54) were conducted in Istanbul. Following training nurses ...

Simvastatin induces proliferation inhibition and apoptosis in C6 glioma cells via c-jun N-terminal kinase Authors:
Publisher and Date:(Elsevier Ireland Ltd., 2004)The lipid-lowering drugs statins induce apoptosis in a variety of tumor cells. Here we investigated the apoptotic effect of the lipophilic statin simvastatin in C6 glioma cells and the underlying effects on intracellular signal transduction. Simvastatin inhibited cell proliferation totally after 20 h of treatment as shown by the decrease in proliferating cell nuclear antigen expression in the nucleus. Subsequently simvastatin caused apoptotic cell death by shrinkage of cytoplasm and condensation ...
