dc.description.abstractBu tezde, Osmanlı Devleti'nde sosyal bir müessese ve bir hayır kurumu olan imaretler, farklı açılardan ele alınmaya çalışılmıştır. Öncelikle tezin ilk bölümünde Vakıf konusu ele alınmıştır. Vakıflar tarafından finanse edilen kurumlar olan imaretlerin kuruluş ve işleyişinin iyi algılanabilmesi sağlanmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu bölüm altında ilk olarak vakfın ne olduğu, İslamiyet öncesinde vakıf benzeri kurumların olup olmadığı, vakıfların tarihsel süreç içerisindeki gelişimi ve Osmanlı Devleti'nde vakıf konusu anlatılmıştır. Vakıf koşullarının yazılı olduğu vakfiyeler, vakıfların çeşitleri, vakıfların unsurları, Osmanlı sosyal hayatında vakıfların önemi bu bölüm altında ele alınan konular içerisinde yer almaktadır. Tezin 2. Bölümünde ilk olarak, terminolojide birden fazla anlama sahip olan imaret kelimesinin tanımları üzerinde durulmuştur. Akabinde imaretlerin parçası olduğu yapı topluluğu olan külliyeler ve bu külliyelerin çeşitleri hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. İşleyişi ve sunduğu hizmetin daha iyi anlaşılabilmesi için, imarethanelerde çalışan personelin kimler olduğu ve vazifeleri liste şeklinde sunulmuştur. Günümüze ulaşan imaretler için bir katalog hazırlanmıştır. İmaretler hakkında bilgi verirken, tarihsel kaynaklar ve arşiv kaynakları da kullanılarak özgün bilgiler sunulmaya çalışılmıştır. Tezin 3. Bölümünde Osmanlı öncesi toplu beslenme kültürü ve bu kültürün temelleri anlatılmıştır. Toplu beslenmede amaç, sadece bir fizyolojik ihtiyaç mı, yoksa güç ve iktidar ile ilişkili mi konusu değerlendirilmiştir. İmaretlerde her gün sunulan ve özel günlerde dağıtılan yiyecekler ile imaretten istifade eden kitle hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Somut olamayan kültür mirasının ne olduğu ve tarihsel süreci ile bu doğrultuda imaret geleneği anlatılmıştır. Halen daha uygulanan imaret örnekleri ve günümüze adapte olmuş imaret geleneği örnekleri de bu bölüm altında ele alınmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe thesis tries to approach Soup Kitchens, which are social and charity institutions in the Ottoman Empire, from a different perspective. The first section of the thesis concentrates on Foundation (Waqf). The emphasis is on providing a detailed explanation on how soup kitchens as institutions financed by foundations are established and operated. Initially questions like what a foundation is, if any institutions similar to foundation existed prior to Islam are answered, historical evolution of foundations and waqf in the Ottoman Empire are included in this section. Deed of waqf which is a document defining the conditions of foundation, different types of waqfs, components of waqfs, importance of waqfs in the Ottoman social life are discussed in this section. The second section of the thesis starts with different definitions of soup kitchen which relate to different meanings in certain terminologies. Next, information on "Külliye" which constitutes the building complex where soup kitchen is a part of and "Külliye" types are provided. The identity of personnel in the soup kitchens and their job descriptions are listed to present a better understanding of the operation and the services soup kitchens provide. Soup kitchens that have survived until today are presented in a catalogue. Historical sources and archive documents are used to be able to present genuine data on soup kitchens. Culture of communal eating and the roots of this culture are explained in the third section of the thesis. The purpose of the communal eating, whether it is a physiological necessity or an issue of power relations are discussed. Information on food cooked on a regular basis and on special days in the soup kitchens as well as the crowd that use the services of the soup kitchens are presented. Definition of intangible cultural heritage and its historical evolution are projected into the explanation of the soup kitchen tradition. Finally, soup kitchens that are still operative and examples of soup kitchen traditions adapted to contemporary institutions are mentioned.en_US
