Türkiye'deki güncel konut araştırmalarında 'ev' olgusu

Abstract

İnsan ile mekân arasındaki ilişki söz konusu olduğunda, son yıllarda yaşanan hızlı toplumsal ve kültürel değişimin dayandığımız temel kavramların tanımlanma ve algılanma biçimlerinde de radikal bir değişime yol açtığı ve soysal bilimlerde mekâna odaklanan çalışmalardaki araştırma yaklaşımları ve yöntemlerinin de bu değişime paralel olarak hızla dönüştüğü görülmüştür. Yakın tarihte bu bağlamda değişim göstermiş olan 'ev' kavramı, olumlu ve olumsuz birçok anlamı ile insanların yaşadıkları mekanlarla olan çift yönlü ilişkisinin bir yansıması olarak kabul görmüştür. Kavramın içerdiği çeşitliliğe bağlı olarak insanların kapalı kapılar ardında sakladıkları gündelik hayatlarının incelenmesi, 'ev'in farklı anlamlarına erişebilmek için tercih edilen bir yöntem haline gelmiştir. Batı literatüründeki konut araştırmalarında son yıllarda biçimlenen bu yaklaşımın izleri son derece belirgindir. Bu tezin amacı, insan ve mekan arasındaki ilişki ile ilgilenen Türkiye'deki güncel konut araştırmalarında 'ev' ve 'konut' kavramlarının nasıl ele alındığını sorgulamak ve bu çalışmaların bahsedilen değişimin izlerini taşıyıp taşımadığını tartışmaktır.2005 yılından bu yana belirli ulusal ve uluslararası indeksli dergilerde yayınlanan ve insan ile mekân arasındaki ilişkiyi konu edinen, Türkiye odaklı konut araştırmaları çalışma kapsamına alınmıştır. Bu makaleler, 'ev' ve 'konut' kavramlarını ele alış biçimlerine göre gruplanarak analiz edilmiştir. Batı literatüründeki sınıflandırmalardan yararlanarak iki ana başlık oluşturulmuştur: yaşanan deneyimlerin mekânı olarak konut, ve fiziksel bir ürün olarak konut.Sonuç kısmında, analiz edilen makalelerde 'ev'in ele alınış biçimlerinin ve kullanılan yöntemlerin, Batı'da gelişen yaklaşım ile ne derecede örtüştüğü tartışılmıştır. Güncel yaklaşım ile paralellik gösteren örneklerin sınırlı sayıda ve belirli konulara odaklanmış olması eleştirilmiştir. Son olarak, 'ev' olgusu etrafında şekillenen bu etnografik yaklaşımın entegre edilebileceği potansiyel alana dikkat çekilmiştir.

The rapid socio-cultural changes experienced in the last couple of decades have led to a radical transformation in the concepts and methods we use in social sciences to understand the relationship between people and space. The concept of `home?, with its positive and negative meanings, has become increasingly productive in representing the essentially dialectical relationship between people and the places they inhabit, and the examination of everyday lives behind closed doors has become a favored method in accessing different meanings people attribute to places. It is seen that the concept as such has been increasingly used in housing studies in the West. The aim of this thesis is to examine the ways researchers of housing studies in Turkey employ the concept of home.The thesis analyses articles that fall into the framework of `housing studies? that are published by researchers from Turkey since 2005, focusing on well-known housing studies journals that are indexed nationally and internationally. These articles are analyzed in groups according to the ways they utilize the concept of the `home? along with the concept of the `house? in their attempts to understand the relationship between people and their home environments. Two main groups are formed with the help of the classifications derived from the related literature in the West: the house as the place of lived experience, and the house as a physical product.The conclusion section discusses the ways the concept of the 'home' is used and the methods that are employed in the selected articles in comparison with the meanings of the home and the methods that are used in the related literature in the West. The thesis concludes that unlike their counterparts in the Western literature, articles of housing studies in Turkey still lacks the potentials that the concept of the `home? presents for understanding the relationship between people and housing environments.
