Conference Object Citation - WoS: 2Power Control and Resource Allocation in Tdd-Ofdm Based Femtocell Networks With Interference(IEEE, 2017) Altabbaa, Mhd Tahssin; Arsan, Taner; Panayırcı, ErdalFemtocell technology is a promising solution for different dilemmas in cellular networks. In femtocell power control the interference experienced by the network is divided into two main tiers according to the type of network whose signal is interfering with another network. In utilizing the functionality of a two-tier network where femtocell technology is deployed a major challenge is in sharing the frequency resource of a macrocell. This paper proposes an enhanced dynamic algorithm bounded by two constraints to optimize the transmission powers of femtocell users in TDD-OFDM based femtocell networks taking into consideration rate enhancement of femtocell mobile stations. We compare our algorithm with the macrocell guard system which allows femtocells to occupy only the subchannels unoccupied by the macrocell.Article Citation - WoS: 11Citation - Scopus: 10Early Steps in Automated Behavior Mapping via Indoor Sensors(MDPI, 2017) Arsan, Taner; Kepez, OrçunBehavior mapping (BM) is a spatial data collection technique in which the locational and behavioral information of a user is noted on a plan layout of the studied environment. Among many indoor positioning technologies we chose Wi-Fi BLE beacon and ultra-wide band (UWB) sensor technologies for their popularity and investigated their applicability in BM. We tested three technologies for error ranges and found an average error of 1.39 m for Wi-Fi in a 36 m(2) test area (6m x 6 m) 0.86 m for the BLE beacon in a 37.44 m(2) test area (9.6 m x 3.9 m) and 0.24 m for ultra-wide band sensors in a 36 m(2) test area (6 m x 6 m). We simulated the applicability of these error ranges for real-time locations by using a behavioral dataset collected from an active learning classroom. We used two UWB tags simultaneously by incorporating a custom-designed ceiling system in a new 39.76 m(2) test area (7.35 m x 5.41 m). We considered 26 observation points and collected data for 180 s for each point (total 4680) with an average error of 0.2072 m for 23 points inside the test area. Finally we demonstrated the use of ultra-wide band sensor technology for BM.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 18Citation - Scopus: 23Review of Bandwidth Estimation Tools and Application To Bandwidth Adaptive Video Streaming(IEEE, 2012) Arsan, TanerStreaming video is very popular in today's best effort delivery networks. Streaming video applications should not only have a good end-to-end transport performance but also have a Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning in network infrastructure. To ensure the video streaming service quality some other components such as adaptive rate allocation and control should be taken into consideration. This paper gives a review of bandwidth estimation tools for wired and wireless networks and then introduces a new bandwidth adaptive architecture for video streaming. © 2012 IEEE.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 7Big Data Platform Development With a Domain Specific Language for Telecom Industries(IEEE, 2013) Şenbalcı, Cüneyt; Altuntaş, Serkan; Bozkuş, Zeki; Arsan, TanerThis paper introduces a system that offer a special big data analysis platform with Domain Specific Language for telecom industries. This platform has three main parts that suggests a new kind of domain specific system for processing and visualization of large data files for telecom organizations. These parts are Domain Specific Language (DSL) Parallel Processing/Analyzing Platform for Big Data and an Integrated Result Viewer. hi addition to these main parts Distributed File Descriptor (DFD) is designed for passing information between these modules and organizing communication. To find out benefits of this domain specific solution standard framework of big data concept is examined carefully. Big data concept has special infrastructure and tools to perform for data storing processing analyzing operations. This infrastructure can be grouped as four different parts these are infrastructure programming models high performance schema free databases and processing-analyzing. Although there are lots of advantages of Big Data concept it is still very difficult to manage these systems for many enterprises. Therefore this study suggest a new higher level language called as DSL which helps enterprises to process big data without writing any complex low level traditional parallel processing codes a new kind of result viewer and this paper also presents a Big Data solution system that is called Petaminer.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 5Fast Multi-View Face Trackingwith Pose Estimation(2008) Meynet, Julien; Arsan, Taner; Mota, Javier Cruz; Thiran, Jean-Philippe Philippe H.In this paper a fast and an effective multi-view face tracking algorithm with head pose estimation is introduced. For modeling the face pose we employ a tree of boosted classifiers built using either Haar-like filters or Gauss filters. A first classifier extracts faces of any pose from the background. Then more specific classifiers discriminate between different poses. The tree of classifiers is trained by hierarchically sub-sampling the pose space. Finally Condensation algorithm is used for tracking the faces. Experiments show large improvements in terms of detection rate and processing speed compared to state-of-the-art algorithms.Conference Object Audience Tracking and Cheering Content Control in Sports Events(IEEE, 2020) Yeşilyurt, Gözdenur; Dursun, Sefa; Kumas, Osman; Çakir, Nagehan; Arsan, TanerSwearing cheers encountered in sports competitions do not comply with sports ethics and morals. Even if this kind of cheering is a group, the entire tribune block is penalized in accordance with the current rules. This method is not preventive and individual punishment should be used. The aim of this study is to determine the individuals who cheer with swearing content. In this study, the person detection is made with the multi-task cascaded convolutional neural network. Moreover, facial landmarks representing the facial regions and the regions related to them are determined as a result of this process. The mouth region is also determined by means of these important points removed, and finally the mouth is determined according to the equation. The face recognition is carried out because the person would be in a state of yelling if the mouth opening ratio exceeds the threshold value by determining the rate of opening. Landmarks extracted from the facial regions for the face recognition are transformed into feature vectors by FaceNet, and the model is created by classifying these vectors with classifiers to use in recognition process. When evaluated in terms of industry, face recognition and detection systems find a wide field of study.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 3Transmitter Source Location Estimation Using Crowd Data(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2018) Öğrenci, Arif Selçuk; Arsan, TanerThe problem of transmitter source localization in a dense urban area has been investigated where a supervised learning approach utilizing neural networks has been adopted. In this study an indoor positioning system using Ultra-wide Band (UWB) sensors was developed and it was aimed to increase the accuracy level of the standard equipment with the additional algorithms used while reducing the average error. For this purpose the Big Bang-Big Crunch (BB-BC) optimization method has been applied to the experimental indoor positioning system and the positive effect on the measurement accuracy has been proved by the tests made. An area of 39.76 m(2) was selected as a test area of 7.35 m x 5.41 m and three different Ultra-wide Band receivers were installed at a height of 2.85 m on a specially designed ceiling system and a total of 10.920 measurements were taken from 182 test points for 60 seconds. By correcting the measurement results with the Big Bang Big Crunch optimization algorithm the average error was reduced from the previous 20.72 cm to 15.02 cm thus the accuracy of the measurement results were improved.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 4A Software Architecture for Inventory Management System(2013) Arsan, Taner; Başkan, Emrah; Ar, Emrah; Bozkuş, ZekiInventory Management is one of the basic problems in almost every company. In the application phase, accuracy and interference are important criteria of indoor positioning systems. Not only the method used in positioning, but also the algorithms used in improving the accuracy is a key factor. In this paper, we tried to eliminate the effects of off-set and noise in the data of the ultra-wide band sensor-based indoor positioning system. For this purpose, optimization algorithms and filters have been applied to the raw data, and the accuracy has been improved. A test bed with the dimensions of 7.35 m x 5.41 m and 50 cm x 50 cm grids has been selected, and a total of 27,000 measurements have been collected from 180 test points. The average positioning error of this test bed is calculated as 16.34 cm. Then, several combinations of algorithms are applied to raw data. The combination of Big Bang-Big Crunch algorithm for optimization, and then the Kalman Filter have yielded the most accurate results. Briefly, the average positioning error has been reduced from 16.34 cm to 7.43 cm.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 3Predictive Control of a Constrained Pressure and Level System(TUBITAK Scientific & Technical Research Council Turkey, 2015) Kaplanoğlu, Erkan; Arsan, Taner; Varol, Hüseyin SelçukThe focus of this paper is the implementation of a constrained predictive control algorithm implemented in Multi-Parametric Toolbox (MPT) which is a free MATLAB toolbox for design analysis and implementation of controllers for constrained linear nonlinear and hybrid systems. Accurate location estimation of targets for indoor environments has the potential for the development of many different applications such as public safety social networking information and mapping services. However the GPS (Global Positioning System) technology used for outdoor environments is not applicable to indoor environments making accurate location estimation a challenging issue for indoor environments. In this paper we propose a received signal strength based least squares lateration algorithm which uses the existing infrastructure. By employing redundancy in the number of access points and applying least squares approximations to the received signal strength values the lateration algorithm increases the accuracy of location estimations. The usage of the existing infrastructure makes the proposed algorithm low cost when compared to other positioning algorithms which need very precise high cost components. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. Infrastructure of the Internet exhibits variable bandwidths delays congestions and time-varying packet losses. Because of such attributes video streaming applications should not only have good end-to-end transport layer performance but also a robust rate control optimization mechanisms. This paper gives an overview of video streaming applications and proposal of a new software architecture that controls transport QoS and path and bandwidth estimation. Predictive Control is one of the best solutions for difficult problems in control engineering applications that can be used in Internet environment. Therefore we provide an end-to-end software architecture between the video requesting clients their destination servers distant streaming servers and video broadcasters. This architecture contains an important Streaming Server Component with Application Layer QoS Manager and Transport Layer Path and Bandwidth Estimator. QoS Manager considers the necessary parameters such as network delay packet loss distortions round trip time channel errors network discontinuity and session dropping probability to make video streaming more efficient and to provide required video quality. Transport Path and Bandwidth Estimator on the other hand provides transmission rates to Destination Servers for optimum video streaming. The paper provides and discusses a software component model of video streaming.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 1Model Based Predictive Rate Controller for Video Streaming(2009) Arsan, TanerDue to the heterogeneous structure of networks video streaming over lossy IP networks is very important issues. However, densely and randomly deployed femtocells while sharing the frequency spectrum of the macrocell arises a severe interference environment. In femtocells deployment, interference coming from a femtocell user affect other femtocell users and the macrocell users, where maintaining the communication of the users in both tiers is a mandatory. In this paper, a novel power control algorithm is proposed for optimizing the uplink transmission powers of femtocell users in a TDD-OFDM communication model in the presence of a channel estimation error and intra-tier interference. We consider signal to interference and noise ratio as the objective function where the proposed constraints deal with: (1) the aggregated interference coming from femtocell tier and received at the active subchannels by the macrocell tier, and (2) the maximum uplink power a femtocell user equipment is allowed to occupy per admissible subchannel. Based on Lagrangian multipliers, the proposed power control approach grants the priority in subchannel usage for macrocell user, then it allows or prohibits frequency reuse of a subchannel with the femtocell tier. A comparison is then made with a pure isolation method that does not allow femtocell user equipments to occupy the active subchannels at the macrocell tier. The numerical results of the proposed approach show a high total rate of femtocell user equipments and the average uplink power is below the maximum allowable transmission power.Conference Object An Integrated Software Architecture for Bandwidth Adaptive Video Streaming(World Acad Sci Eng & Tech-Waset, 2008) Arsan, TanerVideo streaming over lossy IP networks is very important issues due to the heterogeneous structure of networks.
