Article Citation Count: 0An English Missionary Society in Adrianople: Evangelicalism, Millenialism and the Jews(Türk Tarih Kurumu, 2019) Sağ, Mustafa KaanBritish Society for the Propagation of the Gospel among the Jews (BSPGJ) was founded in1842 in London in order to convert Jews to Christianity. In the second half of the 19th century the society established several mission centres in Europe and North Africa, including Edirne in 1865. By offering medical and educational service the society converted a great number of Jews to Christianity. In the beginning of the 20t h century the mission became active in the form of an educational institution called "Adrianople English School". Although the traces of the Edirne mission disappeared in the First World War, the architecture of the school building supports the description of the society's cultural relation with the Ottoman society as far as it appears on the photos of the period. In this work first it will be focused on the religious movement called Evangelicalism, which directed BSPGJ and similar British societies to the Jews. Second the history of the society and the conversion of Jews in Edirne will be examined. Finally it is aimed to put forward an outcome which would aid to light the Middle East Question more clearly within the frame of the influence of Britian based Jewish missions on the international politics and the establishment of Israel.Article Citation Count: 0Facebook as a Boundary Object in Industrial Design Studio. A SoTL Study(Routledge Journals Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2017) Ülkebaş, Selen Devrim; Ülkebaş, Selen DevrimWe introduced Facebook groups as instructional tools in our industrial design studio courses. One of us experienced the effects of Facebook on freshmen while the other examined it with sophomores and juniors. Our analysis of the data focused on the content of students' posts on Facebook groups informal student interviews our experiences in studios and our reflective cross-evaluation. Our comparative analysis showed that Facebook better serves as a boundary object in the later years of design education. The freshmen and partly sophomore were not able to make effective use of this medium for exchanging knowledge. From the perspective of SoTL this study not only helped us to experiment ways of advancing our pedagogy but also served as a platform for us to discuss and exchange knowledge on teaching and learning that is taking place in studio.Book Part Citation Count: 0The Fourth Istanbul Design Biennial: A School of Schools(INTELLECT LTD, 2020) Yıldırım, Yağmur[Abstract Not Available]Article Citation Count: 1The making of the 'new woman': narratives in the popular illustrated press from the Ottoman Empire to the new Republic (1890-1920s)(Routledge Journals, 2019) Hiz, GürbeyThe genre of social narrative was prominent in the printed press of the Ottoman Empire to the early Republic of Turkey (1850s-1920s). The ideological narratives disseminated through the periodical press were influential in the establishment of a new, changing society and social space. Starting in the second half of the nineteenth century, both male and female writers debated the position of women within the changing public setting. Various articles by various authors with various aims constructed multiple imaginations of the 'new woman' by the 1930s. The shifting concepts of womanhood entered the public debate with articles on the modern woman versus the women of the past and discussions on what makes a modern woman. Articles in newspapers and political magazines of the era debated the equality of the new woman in the public sphere. In contrast to them, popular almanacs brought the discussion of womanhood into the domestic space. Turkish-language almanacs contained effectual narratives of the culture of domesticity that helped to imagine and establish multiple modes of new womanhood interwoven with the notion of the home. This article attempts to trace the ideas of the "new woman" and the culture of domesticity that were used particularly in the illustrations found in three different Turkish-language almanacs specifically aimed at female readers in the 1920s, by discussing them as visual narratives.Editorial Citation Count: 0An Obscure Performance in Life and Education(Cambrıdge Univ Press, 2019) Yüceil, Zeynep Günsür[Abstract Not Available]Editorial Citation Count: 1Origins and Developments: A Brief Overview(Cambrıdge Univ Press, 2019) Hemiş, Özlem[Abstract Not Available]Book Review Citation Count: 0Ottoman Izmir: the rise of a cosmopolitan port 1840-1880(INT SEMINAR URBAN FORM, 2013) Çetin, Murat[Abstract Not Available]
