Anomalous pancreaticobiliary junction (APBJ) with the drainage of the uncinate process into the minor papilla: demonstration by MRI
Authors:Başaranoğlu, Metin; Balcı, Numan Cem; Kloer, Hans Ulrich
Publisher and Date:(BRITISH INST RADIOLOGY, 2005)We report a case of a 30-year-old patient with anomalous pancreaticobiliary junction (APBJ) that has not been described before. The patient had a clinical history of recurrent attacks of pancreatitis cholangitis and cholecystitis that were confirmed by abnormal laboratory values. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography revealed a 20 mm long junction of choledoc and pancreatic duct and uncinate process draining into the minor papilla. On MR cholangiopancreatography strictures at the junction ...

Gallbladder sludge and acute pancreatitis induced by acute hepatitis A
In this case report a young woman with gallbladder sludge and acute pancreatitis due to acute hepatitis A (HAV) is presented. She was admitted to our hospital with abnormal hepatic enzymes. Five days prior to her admission an initial abdominal ultrasound was performed at another hospital and revealed no abnormality while her serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) level was at the upper limit of normal (ULN) x 8. A second ultrasound was performed at our hospital and revealed a gallbladder wall ...

Juxtapapillary diverticulum: Findings on MRI
Authors:Balcı, Numan Cem; Noone, Tara; Akun, Elif; Akıncı, Ahmet; Kloer, Hans Ulrich
Publisher and Date:(John Wiley & Sons Inc, 2003)The purpose of our study was to describe the imaging findings of juxtapapillary diverticulum on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The MRI and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) examinations of 14 patients with juxtapapillary diverticula that were diagnosed on endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) (N = 8) or endoscopy (N = 6) were retrospectively evaluated T1-weighted spoiled gradient echo T2-weighted half Fourier single shot fast spin-echo (HASTE) and T2-weighted ...

Primary epiploic appendagitis: MRI findings
Authors:Şırvancı, Mustafa; Balcı, Numan Cem; Karaman, Kutlay; Duran, Cihan; Karakaş, Emel Yigit
Publisher and Date:(Elsevier Science Inc, 2002)Primary epiploic appendagitis (PEA) occurs secondary to inflammation of an epiploic appendage and is considered to be a rare cause of acute abdomen. In this case report we describe the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of PEA correlated with computed tomographic (CT) findings. MRI findings included an oval shaped fat intensity mass with a central dot on T1- and T2-weighted images C which possessed an enhancing rim on postgadolinium T1-weighted fat saturated images. The lesion was best ...

Recurrent cholangitis associated with biliary sludge and Phrygian cap anomaly diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography despite normal ultrasound and computed tomography
A 31-year-old woman presented with a one and half years' history of intermittent right upper quadrant (RUQ) pain high fever and severely painful warm and reddish swollen skin lesions on the fingers. Acute attack resolution occurred within 2 weeks after treatment with non-specific antibiotics. Low-grade fever ( around 37.5 degrees C) and less painful swellings continued for 6 months after each attack. Abdominal ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) scans did not show any abnormality during the ...

Renal-related perinephric fluid collections: MRI findings
Authors:Balcı, Numan Cem; Akun, Elif; Ertürk, Mehmet; Sağlam, Sezer; İnan, Nagihan; Balcı, Yeşim
Publisher and Date:(Elsevier Science Inc, 2005)We retrospectively reviewed MR studies on 10 patients with renal-related perinephric fluid collections who underwent MRI in three institutions between January 2001 and August 2004. All patients underwent MRI of the abdomen and T1-weighted T2-weighted and serial contrast-enhanced images including delayed-phase contrast-enhanced images 10-12 min after contrast injection were obtained. Perinephric fluid collections in 5 patients revealed MRI findings of simple fluid content (i.e. hypointense on ...
