The relationship between Turkey and Israel, has displayed a fluctuating progress since Turkey has recognized Israel in the year 1948. Even though the state of war and stressful relationships Israel was in with its neighbors cause Turkey to keep itself at a distance from Israel most of the time, sometimes it caused the execution of mutual national evaluations, and this brought Turkey and Israel closer.Turkey Israel relationships and Turkish-Jewish relationships are two distinct relationship areas that carry differences. Jewish people were always treated with tolerance and hospitality in Ottoman Empire soil. Even the immigration of Jewish to the land of Palestine within the framework of ?religious Zionism? was not met with negativity by the Ottoman State. However, in 16th century, when ?political Zionism? which constructed itself by observing the nationalism movements in Europe, started requesting ?a Jewish homeland? in the Ottoman soil, the attitude of the Empire showed an evident change. It is understood that, the problem of ?legitimacy? that one does not even think of in relationships with other countries, is the dominant issue of the Turkey-Israel relationships. Even though Israel is mentioned as an "ally" from time to time, the fact that it is facing normalization problem in Middle East, affects Turkey-Israel relationships. Turkey, therefore has perceived its relationships with Israel as dependent and variable, and unless an opportunity for establishing a relationship has arisen, closeness between Ankara and Tel Aviv was not realized. It can be said that the style of this approach, is reflected in the same manner to Middle East issues.en_US
