Digital marketing and hotel website solutions play a lead role in this competition. Therefore, hotel websites need to be innovative, user-friendly, and descriptive. The main purpose of the study is to evaluate and rank potential hotel websites and digital solutions provider firms. Since there are various potentially competing quantitative and qualitative criteria to take into consideration in the decision-making process, a multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) method is needed. As the MCDM method, fuzzy best-worst method (FBWM) is integrated with the Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (F-TOPSIS). In this integration, FBWM is applied to determine fuzzy evaluation criteria weights and then F-TOPSIS is implemented to rank alternatives utilizing the obtained fuzzy weights. A case study is presented, where 4 alternative hotel websites and digital solutions provider firms for Paloma Hotels in Turkey are evaluated based on 9 criteria by 3 hotel managers.Article Citation - WoS: 7Citation - Scopus: 12An Analysis of Price Spikes and Deviations in the Deregulated Turkish Power Market(Elsevier, 2019) Gayretli, Gizem; Yücekaya, Ahmet; Bilge, Ayşe HümeyraThe successful operation of a real time market is related to the planning in the day ahead market. We analyze the day ahead and real time market data for the Turkish power market for the period 2012-2015 to classify price spikes and their causes. We also focus on the levels of deviation between the day ahead market values and the real time market values. We define price deviation and load deviation ratios to measure the level of deviation both in price and demand. The analysis for the load is based on load shedding and cycling values. We analyze the mean and standard deviation in market prices and we determine the price spike as a two sigma deviation from the mean value. It is shown that 60% of the price deviation ratios are in the range of ( +/- 20%), while 44% are in the range of ( +/- 10%) and 35% are in the range of (+/- 5%). We also show that 56.9% of the spikes are due to problems in the generation of natural gas based power plants which affect the day ahead and real time prices. A total of 29.2% of the spikes are due to power plant and system failures that affect only real time prices. The share of high temperature based spikes is 13.9% which is a result of air conditioner usage.Article Citation - WoS: 36Citation - Scopus: 46Evaluation of Water Supply Alternatives for Istanbul Using Forecasting and Multi-Criteria Decision Making Methods(Elsevier Ltd, 2020) Savun Hekimoğlu, Başak; Erbay, Barbaros; Hekimoğlu, Mustafa; Burak, SelminWater scarcity is one of the most serious problems of the future due to increasing urbanization and water demand. Urban water planners need to balance increasing water demand with water resources that are under increasing pressure due to climate change and water pollution. Decision makers are forced to select the most appropriate water management alternative with respect to multiple, conflicting criteria based on short and long term projections of water demand in the future. In this paper, we consider water management in Istanbul, a megacity with a population of 15 million. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to develop a method combining demand forecasting with multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods to evaluate five different water supply alternatives with respect to seven criteria using opinions of experts and stakeholders from different sectors. Methodology: To combine forecasting with MCDM, we design a data collection method in which we share our demand forecasts with our experts. For demand forecasting, we compare Holt-Winters, Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (S-ARIMA), and feedforward Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models and select S-ARIMA as the best forecasting model for monthly water consumption data. Generated demand projections are shared with experts from different sectors and collected data is evaluated with Fuzzy Theory using two distinct MCDM models: Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE). Also our analyses are complemented with two sensitivity analyses. Findings: Our results indicate that greywater reuse is the best alternative to satisfy the growing water demand of the city whereas all experts find desalination and inter-basin water transfer as the least attractive solutions. In addition, we adopt the PROMETHEE GDSS procedure to obtain a GAIA plane indicating consensus among experts. Furthermore, we find that our results are moderately sensitive to the number of experts and they are insensitive to changes in experts’ evaluations. Novelty: To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first one incorporating water demand and supply management concepts into the evaluation of alternatives. From a methodological perspective, water demand projections have never been used in an MCDM study in the literature. Also, this paper contributes to the literature with a mathematical construction of consensus and Monte Carlo simulations for the sufficiency of experts consulted in a study.Conference Object A Numerical Study of Shallow Mixing Development Over Flat Surface and Dunes(TSINGHUA UNIV, 2013) Kirkil, Gökhan; Constantinescu, GeorgeResults of a high resolution Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) are used to characterize the evolution of a shallow mixing layer developing between two parallel streams in a long open channel with a smooth flat bed and dunes. The study discusses the vertical non-uniformity in the mixing layer structure and provides a quantitative characterization of the growth of the large-scale quasi two-dimensional (2D) coherent structures with the distance from the splitter plate. Results show that in streamwise sections situated between 75D (D is the channel depth) and 150D from the splitter plate the width of the mixing layer close to the free surface is 20-30% more than the width in the near-bed region in the case in which the channel bed is flat. This is mostly because of the tilting of the mixing layer interface on the low-speed side toward the low speed stream as the free surface is approached. Power spectra of the horizontal velocity components show the presence of a -3 subrange at streamwise locations situated more than 10D from the splitter plate consistent with the presence of large-scale quasi 2D horizontal eddies and the transfer of energy (inverse energy cascade) from the smaller scales toward these eddies. Consistent with visualizations of the mass transport of a passive scalar within the mixing layer close to the free surface the estimated streamwise length of the quasi 2D mixing layer eddies is about 2.5 to 3.0 times larger than the local width of the mixing layer. The presence of large-scale roughness elements in the form of an array of two-dimensional dunes with a maximum height of 0.25D (D is the channel depth) induces a much more rapid and larger shift of the centerline of the mixing layer due to the increased influence of the bottom roughness.Article Citation - WoS: 17Citation - Scopus: 21An Intelligent Approach To Supplier Evaluation in Automotive Sector(Springer, 2016) Ayağ, Zeki; Samanlıoğlu, FundaDuring the process of supplier evaluation selecting the best desirable supplier is one of the most critical problems of companies since improperly selected suppliers may cause losing time cost and market share of a company. For this multiple-criteria decision making selection problem in this paper a fuzzy extension of analytic network process (ANP) which uses uncertain human preferences as input information in the decision-making process is applied since conventional methods such as analytic hierarchy process cannot accommodate the variety of interactions dependencies and feedback between higher and lower level elements. The resulting fuzzy ANP enhances the potential of the conventional ANP for dealing with imprecise and uncertain human comparison judgments. The objective is to minimize the total unloaded miles traveled by the trucks. In this paper a simulated annealing - a meta-heuristic optimization method - that interacts with a deterministic simulation model of the log transport system in which the precedence and temporal relations among activities are explicitly accounted for is proposed. The results obtained by solving a small size problem consisting of four trucks two mills three loggers and four truck trips showed that the best solution could be found in less than two minutes. In addition the solution method is tested using data provided by a log delivery trucking firm located in Mississippi. The firm operates sixty-eight trucks to deliver loads from twenty-two logging operations to thirteen mill destinations. The routes assigned by a supervisory person are used as a benchmark to compare the manual generated solution to the solution obtained using the proposed method. (C) 2013 Elsevier Inc. As a case study the SIR model is applied to the fatality data of the 2009 fall wave cycle of the A(H1N1) pandemic in 12 European countries. It is observed that the best estimates of the basic reproduction number R-0 and the mean duration of the infection period 1/eta lie on a curve in the scatterplots indicating the existence of a nearly-invariant quantity which corresponds to the duration of the epidemic. Spline interpolation applied to the early phase of the epidemic an approximately 10-week period together with a future control point in the stabilization region is sufficient to estimate model parameters. The SIR model is run over a wide range of parameters and estimates of R0 in the range 1.2-2.0 match the values in the literature. The duration of the infection period 1/eta is estimated to be in the range 2.0-7.0 days. Therefore most companies have used various methods to successfully carry out this difficult and time-consuming process. Of these methods an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) has been widely used in multiple-criteria decision-making problems (i.e. concept selection equipment evaluation). In this study however we use an analytic network process (ANP) a more general form of AHP due to the fact that AHP cannot accommodate the variety of interactions dependencies and feedback between higher and lower level elements. The extraction bases on rapid reaction of OMSA with Hg(II) ions yielding mono and disulfonamido mercury compounds in ordinary conditions. Solubility of OMSA and its mercury compounds in 2-ethyl hexanol provide a clear-cut phase separation in the extraction. The solution of OMSA in 2-ethyl hexanol (0.4 mol L-1) is able to extract 82.2% of mercuric-acetate (0.4 mol L-1) in non-buffered conditions. Although the process depends on the nature of accompanying anions the distribution coefficient is reasonably high (k(d) greater than or equal to 1.27) even in the presence of chloride ions. The extraction is strictly selective and the presence of Cd(II) Zn(II) Pb(II) do not bring any interference. The extraction system works in moderate concentrations. Extracted mercury in the organic phase can be recovered by back-extraction with concentrated HCl or H2SO4 solutions. After acid treatment the organic solution of OMSA becomes regenerated without losing its activity due to reasonable hydrolytic stability of the sulfonamide linkage and it can be recycled for further extractions.Article Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 12An Intelligent Approach for the Evaluation of Transformers in a Power Distribution Project(IOS Press BV, 2020) Samanlıoğlu, Funda; Ayağ, ZekiIn this study, a hybrid approach is presented for the evaluation and selection of transformers in a power distribution project. Ranking transformers and selecting the best among alternatives is a complex multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) problem with various possibly conflicting quantitative and qualitative criteria. In this research, two hesitant fuzzy MCDM methods; hesitant fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (hesitant F-AHP) and hesitant fuzzy Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enriching Evaluations II (hesitant F-PROMETHEE II) are combined to evaluate and rank transformers. In the hesitant fuzzy AHP-PROMETHEE II, hesitant F-AHP is implemented to determine criteria weights and hesitant F-PROMETHEE II is applied to rank transformer alternatives, utilizing obtained criteria weights. An illustrative example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed approach. In the example, five transformers are evaluated based on twelve criteria by three decision makers (DMs) and best alternative is selected. In this study first the fuzzy AHP is used to reduce a possible number of alternatives for the CAD system to an acceptable level for further study simulation analysis. Secondly a simulation generator as an integrated part of the fuzzy AHP is used to try the remaining alternatives on the generated model of a real-life product organisation in which the final alternative will be used. This study includes three hierarchical sub-studies conducted in two countries, Turkey and Poland. First, we develop a segmentation for social networking site (SNS) users based on the frequency of sharing product-related information on SNSs. Second, we investigate the impact of several factors that affect eWOM seeking and sharing intentions using regression analysis. In the second sub-study, we also include the identified segments developed in the first sub-study as another factor that may have differentiated eWOM intentions. Third, to understand the degree of interaction among SNS users, we apply an SNA using the forecasted eWOM intentions scores from the second sub-study, which gives us hypothetical social networks. The results of SNA present strong interactions inter- and intra-clusters in both countries. Some key findings include the identification of three SNS user segments, including “Middlers,” that may be of particular interest to brands. We also find that in terms of eWOM intentions, users in Turkey are more active than in Poland. Although some predictors of eWOM seeking and sharing intentions differ between the two countries, users intend to be more active in eWOM seeking than in eWOM sharing. A decreasing number of capital products in use increases the nonstationary supply-side risk especially towards the end-of-life of capital products. This supply-side risk appears to present itself through varying lead times coupled with supply disruptions. To model the nonstationary supply-side risk we consider an exogenous Markov chain that modulates random lead times and disruption probabilities. Assuming that order crossovers do not occur we prove the optimality of a state-dependent base stock policy. Later we conduct an impact study to understand the value of considering stochastic lead times and supply disruption risk in spare parts inventory control. Our results indicate that the coupled effect of random lead times and disruptions can be larger than the summation of individual effects even for moderate lead time variances. Also the effect of nonstationarity on total cost can be as large as the summation of all risk factors combined. In addition to this managerial insight we present a procedure for supply risk mitigation based on an empirical model and our mathematical model. Experiments on a real business case indicate that the procedure is capable of reducing costs while making the inventory system more prepared for disruptions. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. The auction mechanism supply and demand determine the equilibrium at each hour. In this environment firms aim to maximize their revenues by carefully determining their bids. This requires the development of effective computational methods that help them estimate their competitors' behaviors under incomplete information. In this article an agent-based method that uses particle swarm optimization is described to simulate the behavior of market participants. Particle swarm optimization is used in the bidding process and an agent-based model is applied to find a Nash equilibrium. Different stopping conditions are used to determine the equilibrium. Experimental results are presented for two power systems.
