Specifically we first perform a pairwise error probability analysis over flat fading channels explicitly. Then we comment on our expectations for the case of FS fading channels. We show that the joint transmit and receive antenna selection based on received power levels does not degrade the achievable diversity order when full rank STCs are employed. Iran's proud history starts with the Achaemenid Empire, which began in the 6th century BCE (c. 550). The Iranians provided numerous innovative ideas in breakthroughs and technologies that are often taken for granted today or whose origins are mostly unknown from the Achaemenid Empire's early days. To recognize the history of computing systems in Iran, we must pay attention to everything that can perform computing. Because of Iran's historical position in the ancient ages, studying the history of computing in this country is an exciting subject. The history of computing in Iran started very far from the digital systems of the 20th millennium. The Achaemenid Empire can be mentioned as the first recorded sign of using computing systems in Persia. The history of computing in Iran started with the invention of mathematical theories and methods for performing simple calculations. This paper also attempts to shed light on Persia's computing heritage elements, dating back to 550 BC. We look at both the ancient and current periods of computing. In the ancient section, we will go through the history of computing in the Achaemenid Empire, followed by a description of the tools used for calculations. Additionally, the transition to the Internet era, the formation of a computer-related educational system, the evolution of data networks, the growth of the software and hardware industry, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are all discussed in the modern section. We highlighted the findings in each period that involve vital sparks of computing evolution, such as the gradual growth of computing in Persia from its early stages to the present. While the findings reveal a significant and positive relationship between state ownership and tunneling and a significant and negative relationship between foreign ownership and tunneling the relationship between family ownership and tunneling is non-linear. In addition while board size is negatively associated with tunneling independent directors do not prevent the embezzlement of resources. We focus particularly on the economic and political pressure on the media in Turkey and offer three arguments regarding the fear in Turkish media: (1) Media fear is historical rather than a rupture that happened during the Justice and Development Party era; (2) out of fear of losing power, the governments use structural, legislative and extra-legal factors to the advantage of the ruling party to support a friendly media-ecology; and (3) the repressed media attempt to come out of this ecology of fear by utilizing new tactics of reporting, such as alternative media and citizen journalism.Article Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 10Art Investment: Hedging or Safe Haven Through Financial Crises(Springer, 2020) Öztürkkal, Belma; Toğan-Eğrican, AslıWe analyze long-term art auction sales data focusing on and around financial crisis periods with other investment returns to understand whether art can be considered a safe haven during volatile times or a hedging option in general by analyzing art auction data in a volatile emerging market. Our findings suggest Turkish art returns are either negatively correlated or at low correlation with other investments, including the equity market. We have the view that art can be considered a hedging mechanism on average to enhance returns and to decrease the risk of portfolios and improve diversification. However, we do not discard the safe-haven hypothesis, either. Although the auction data on the crisis period is limited, results of and around crisis periods show art returns are positively correlated with various volatility indices. In addition, the number of art transactions also increases after the crisis years, which may be a sign of liquidity requirement of some investors and an opportunity for buyers. As a result electrical energy providers need to check in great detail the integrity of their power systems by performing regular contingency studies of the equipment involved. Among others line and transformer outage simulations constitute an integral part of an electrical management system. Both accuracy and calculation speed depend on the branch outage model and/or the solution algorithms applied. In this paper the local constrained optimization problem of the single-branch outage problem is solved by intelligent methods: particle swarm optimization differential evolution and harmony search. Simulations of IEEE 14- 30- 118- and 300 -bus systems are computed both by intelligent methods and by AC load flow. Mannose-binding lectin 2 (MBL2) plays an important role in first-line immune defense. HLA DRB1 alleles play a role in presentation of peptides to T cells and in activation of the adaptive immune response. Objective: In our study, we aimed to investigate both the MBL2 gene variant and HLA-DRB1 alleles in pediatric ALL patients. Materials: In this study, 86 high-risk ALL patients and 100 controls were included. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and PCRsequence specific primer (SSP) methods were used for detection of polymorphism of the MBL2 and HLA-DRB1 alleles, respectively. Results: The frequency of the MBL2 AB genotype was lower in female ALL patients, compared to male ALL patients (p = 0.034). An association was found between the MBL2 BB genotype and DRB1*07 and among patients with the MBL2 BB genotype; those who also carried the DRB1*07 and *04 alleles were significantly higher than those without the DRB1*07 and *04 alleles. (p = 0.048, p = 0.022, respectively). Conclusion: This is the first study suggesting that the MBL2 BB genotype in association with the DRB1*07 or co-inheritance of the HLA-DRB1*04 and HLA DRB1*07 may have an impact on the etiopathogenesis of the disease. This study proposes a multi-objective optimization approach to enhance peer-to-peer (P2P) market operations within low-voltage distribution grids. It focuses on optimizing the placement of modular PV panels, maximizing prosumer profits, and refining P2P strategies. Key objectives include minimizing the payback periods for PV owners and reducing the average monthly energy costs for consumers. The Multi-Objective Advanced Gray Wolf Optimizer (MOAGWO) is used as the solution method. Operational scenarios are also compared from a consumer reliability perspective as an assessment metric. The methodology is applied to a 55-node European low-voltage test feeder across six scenarios. Results indicate that prosumer payback periods remain around eight years for up to four prosumers but increase with further installations. Average monthly energy costs for customers ranged from 653 to 1079. Design/methodology/approach: We use a holistic empirical approach based on resource-based view and marketing productivity chain. The main study consists of a secondary analysis using quarterly data of fourteen banks over four years. We analyze the data using fixed-effect panel data regression, namely seemingly unrelated regressions. Findings: We find that customer-based brand equity is one of the most influential factors on business performance. Moreover, the indirect effect through customer-based brand equity should be considered in improving business performance. Marketing-related financial resources positively impact customer-based brand equity and business performance. Regarding marketing activities, pricing strategies affect the bank preferences of customers, which in turn affect the growth of deposit volumes and churn rates. Additionally, the number of bank branches positively impacts business performance. Advertising spending on different media has differentiated impacts on the performance indicators; thus, the allocation of advertising budget and advertising planning are critical. Originality/value: This study examines the inter-relationships among marketing resources, marketing activities, consumer response through brand equity and marketing performance. This study contributes to the literature by integrating the resource-based view and the marketing productivity chain to analyze the inter-relationships using panel data and several sector-related metrics. The present study, testing 115 children (aged 3 to 10) on an elicited production task, investigated the acquisition of the irregular distribution in the Turkish causative. Results showed that in early acquisition, to pin down the four causative suffixes, children engaged in comparisons between analogous exemplars. Thereafter to tackle the irregularity in two of the suffixes, children entertained competing hypotheses that yielded overregularizations and irregularizations. Overregularizations were instances of abstraction across the input based on type frequency; irregularizations were attempts to default to erroneous micro-generalizations. Negative correlation between errors and verb frequency suggested that recovery from errors was sensitive to token frequency. The overgeneralize-then-recover pattern that emerged in the acquisition of causative supported an integrated account of the roles of analogy, abstraction, and frequency in morphology learning.Article Citation - WoS: 28Citation - Scopus: 31Corporate Esg Engagement and Information Asymmetry: the Moderating Role of Country-Level Institutional Differences(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2022) Bilyay-Erdogan, SedaThe purpose of this study is to examine: (i) the impact of corporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance on asymmetric information and (ii) whether this relationship differs for countries with different legal and governance systems. Employing an extensive sample (covering 21 countries from Europe) for an extended time frame (2002-2019), we present evidence that overall corporate ESG performance reduces information asymmetry. Moreover, environmental, social, and governance pillars separately contribute to this significant relationship. Within the ten subcategories of the ESG score, only the emissions, workforce, human rights, product responsibility, and management scores significantly and negatively affect asymmetric information. We also present novel evidence that the inverse relationship between corporate ESG performance and information asymmetry is more pronounced in civil law and stakeholder-oriented countries, but not in common law and shareholder-oriented countries. Our findings demonstrate that firms' country-level institutional context moderates the association between ESG performance and information asymmetry.Article Citation - WoS: 65Citation - Scopus: 64Economic Policy Uncertainty and Climate Change: Evidence from CO2 Emission(Springer, 2023) Benlemlih, Mohammed; Yavas, Cigdem VuralIn this paper, we study the relationship between Economic Policy Uncertainty (EPU) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Using an extensive dataset from 23 countries consisting of 6800 firm-year observations, we provide strong evidence that EPU increases firms' CO2 emissions. Our main inference is robust when using alternative measures of CO2 emissions and EPU, alternative econometric specifications and samples, and several approaches to control for possible endogeneity. In a set of additional analyses, we first show that a board's characteristics (i.e., board gender diversity and board independence) significantly moderate the studied relationship. Second, cross-country characteristics (i.e., government effectiveness, control of corruption, and democracy) seem important in the relationship between EPU and CO2 emissions. Our findings significantly contribute to the debate on firms' ethical responsibility in managing climate change and CO2 emissions.
